Frequently asked questions

What is a Site ID number?

Your Site Identification Number (Site ID) is a 13-digit number that is uniquely assigned to your electricity and natural gas metered point of consumption. Every home, business, restaurant, farm, factory, street light, school – basically every metered point in Alberta – has a specific Site ID assigned to it. If there is electricity and natural gas at the location then it will have one Site ID for electricity and one for Natural Gas.
Site ID example: 0010123456789

How can I find my Site ID number?

There are three main ways that you can find your electricity and/or natural gas Site ID:
1) You can find your Site ID listed on your current electricity or natural gas invoice.
2) Activate Energy can find it for you for free – just use our online contract search tool, email or call us directly
3) You can contact the Local Distribution company and ask them to confirm the site ID

Do I need to know my electricity and natural gas Site ID to sign up with Activate Energy?

No, you don’t need to know your Site ID (although it is extremely helpful!) The online signup form allows you to search for your site address and choose your site ID from the drop-down list. If you can’t find it there, please submit the enrollment form and our team will help find and confirm the site ID for enrollment.

Is my meter number different than my Site ID?

Yes. The Site ID is assigned by your distributor at the time that the building is finished and a meter is installed. Once a Site ID is assigned to a location then that Site ID will never be changed. A meter number is specific to the actual meter that is installed at your property. Although not frequently, a meter can be changed for a variety of reasons including a change in consumption (for businesses or industrial sites), for changes in technology or in the rare event that a meter is found to be broken or defective.
